The big storm hit with 17 inches on the ground. I posted online with the humane society their pictures. I posted on Craigslist (CL) "lost and found" section after Sunil said it would be a good idea - that people will check there. I didn't get to sleep probably until 2am. I slept downstairs on the couch. Just in case they came home I wanted to hear them. I left the window cracked open. I didn't want to sleep!! How could I when my babies just 12 months old 4 days earlier hadn't slept. Oh Cassanova and Pirate!! My mind twisted and turned all night imagining them out there in the cold - in the deep, deep snow. Thank GOD they loved snow and being outside. Maybe their coats are thicker?? Someone told me that, right??
Kiran who's 11 asked if we would find them. I told him we would do EVERYTHING humanly possible. I told him that I would NEVER give up looking for them EVER. I told him that THEY ARE OUR BABIES and I will NEVER give up HOPE. I told him I was devotedly loyal, completely focused and incredibly persistent. Talia (our 4 year old) said she missed them with a huge smile on her face and went back to playing with her cooking set.
It was about 10am and I got a call from a woman who saw my CL add. She found two black labs this morning in MacGroveland!!!! HURRAH!!!!!!!! It HAS to be them!!! Am I sure they're not females?? They're black, a little pudgy with pink sweaters on??? OMG this isn't them?? WHAT are the ODDS????!!!?? But it gives me HUGE hope that the process of CL is working. PHEW we'll find them of course we will!!!
Another call - it's Animal Control!!! He saw my CL ad and is going on a call to Lake Phalen on two black dog running around. WOW what an awesome guy!!!! Well it must be them but boy how did they get so far??? He says he's going to call me back. I assure him they're microchipped. I wait and he doesn't call. My heart sinks. I call him after 1 hour. No the dogs weren't exactly black, and they were microchipped so he found the owners.
WHAT in the WORLD??? Two sets of black dogs running around??? I pray to God that He keep them safe and to bring them home. We start the arduous process of making our neon green posters. Kiran asks when we're going to tell Adhina our 12 year old. I tell him I want to wait - it's just so soon and hopefully we can call her and give her good news.

The Horrible Day Cass & PiePie Ran - December 10th, 2010
Sunil called 2x while I was at work and I answered it around 3:20pm - my bottom fell out. The dogs were out. WHAT???!!? Not 2 hours earlier had I mentioned to a client that we were getting GPS trackers for our dogs Cass & PiePie because they LOVE to run together into the great expanse of Highland.
I immediately left the gig I was on and picked up Kiran and Talia at school in Minneapolis and raced home. It was 4:15 by the time I got to highland. They had already been on the run at least an hour. An HOUR!!!! Sunil had been driving up and down the streets. My mind raced - where are they it's going to be getting dark?? I knew a HUGE snowstorm was on it's way - could they sense that? I drove up and down streets all over Highland and told Sunil to go into Mendota Heights across the 55 bridge. Adhina was still at the Land School in Wisconsin - we would have to tell her...not now, not now...hopefully later after we've found them, I prayed. After driving around for a good 2 1/2 hours I drove the kids home. It was dark.
We have ALWAYS seen them run and so we've immediately run after them. But this time it was different. We leave them in the sunroom/porch when we leave. The door between the garage and porch was not completely closed. When Sunil came home they were already in the garage and then they bolted. Sunil didn't see them leave...odd...how could he not see two HUGE BLACK DOGS run past his car as he came into the garage??
I went back to the gig I left abruptly. I was a wreck. My babies were out there somewhere in the DARK??!? But this had happened once before. Someone will see them. We'll get them back. We live in Highland in St Paul - our neighbors are good, honest people. When I left at 10pm it had started snowing. My stomach turned - how are they going to survive if it snows?? As I drove back home to Highland and I was in shock. The tears flowed at the thought of them out there alone. Will they make it through the night??? It's supposed to snow 12-18 inches!! I drove up and down Highland for at least 2 hours. WHERE ARE THEY???
